Continuous EEG monitoring in the follow-up of convulsive status epilepticus patients: A proposal and preliminary validation of an EEG-based seizure build-up score (EaSiBUSSEs)

چکیده

Continuous electroencephalography (EEG) is a major tool for monitoring patients admitted to the intensive care unit after refractory convulsive status epilepticus, following control of movements. We review values different EEG patterns observed in critically ill prognosis and seizure risk, together with proposed criteria non-convulsive epilepticus diagnosis (Salzburg Criteria), scores (Epidemiology-based Mortality score Status Epilepticus, EMSE) risk (2HELPS2B). These scores, based partially on continuous EEG, are not tailored repetitively monitor progressive build-up leading or recurrence. Therefore, we propose new EEG-based (EaSiBUSSEs), morphology prevalence follow-up patients. It displays subscores from least (no interictal activity) most associated seizures (focal generalized epilepticus). then evaluated performance EaSiBUSSEs cohort eleven who were underwent recording. The receiver operating curve revealed good accuracy identifying would have next 24 h, excellent intra- inter-rater reliability. believe that this simple perform, suitable repeated quantitative description changes seizures.

Continuous EEG monitoring in the evaluation of non-convulsive seizures and status epilepticus.

Non-convulsive seizures (NCSzs) and non-convulsive status epilepticus (NCSE) occur in a substantial proportion of patients with acute brain injury. These acute seizure disorders are often unrecognized and under-diagnosed. Seizure semiology of NCSz is too subtle clinically to be noticed. Most often, mental status impairment is the presenting feature. Changes in the functions of the thalamo-corti...

The EEG of status epilepticus.

SUMMARY Gastaut noted that there are as many forms of status epilepticus (SE) as there are seizure types. The pleomorphic EEG patterns reflect this wide variety of clinical types. The different electroclinical types of status epilepticus share EEG characteristics including rhythmic activity, epileptiform discharges, and often a waxing and waning evolution. Gray zones of interpretation exist in ...

Non-convulsive status epilepticus: usefulness of clinical features in selecting patients for urgent EEG.

BACKGROUND Non-convulsive status epilepticus (NCSE) is status epilepticus without obvious tonic-clonic activity. Patients with NCSE have altered mental state. An EEG is needed to confirm the diagnosis, but obtaining an EEG on every patient with altered mental state is not practical. OBJECTIVE To determine whether clinical features could be used to predict which patients were more likely to be...

Dynamics of convulsive seizure termination and postictal generalized EEG suppression.

It is not fully understood how seizures terminate and why some seizures are followed by a period of complete brain activity suppression, postictal generalized EEG suppression. This is clinically relevant as there is a potential association between postictal generalized EEG suppression, cardiorespiratory arrest and sudden death following a seizure. We combined human encephalographic seizure data...
